Employment Problems Persist In The Black Community

by Steven on February 6, 2012

If you’ve been reading my blog you know by now that I don’t hold any punches when it comes to accountability. Right now in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Black male unemployment is over 53% for the ages of 18 – 45.

Who’s fault is this? A lot of political figures have blamed the loss of manufacturing jobs and the downturn in the economy. Both of those are facts but they are not solely the reason behind Black male unemployment.

One of the biggest problems we have in the Black community is the unwillingness to adapt to new ways of doing things. Now don’t get me wrong there are many other communities that are facing the same problem too but it seems that the Black community lags behind solely due to believing more in the old ways rather than seeing that things are changing right in front of our faces.

When accepting applications I’ve had applicants write their name using text messaging style. This is when they write “You” as “U”. What the hell is that all about.

There’s also a huge problem with not listening to what is required. Such as typing, computer skills, etc. The Black community lags behind in these simple skills that almost every job will require.

There’s also a huge problem with attitude. This is actually crossing all Racial lines but for this article I’ll stick to the Black community.

I’ve experienced wet behind the ears applicants believing they should be at the top of the company with no experience and barely any skills required to perform the needed duties.

I could go on and on about the short-comings of the Black community but I won’t…instead I want to talk about solutions.

Our community needs new energetic individuals willing to take technology by the horns and ride it until!!!!!!

We have become major users of technology but we don’t invent anything that could change the landscape of our community by providing jobs in the technology fields.

Because our children and young adults have been raised with technology that’s all they know. They can manipulate technology, they can learn how to use it in minutes and they use it over and over again.

But the problem is they are only using it and not benefiting financially from it.

The solution is to INVENT new technologies, provide new uses for existing technologies and teach new technologies as an employment opportunity for themselves and others.

We see people earning thousands of dollars per month from just publishing videos online on youtube. Where some see it as a place to just post some stupid videos of themselves acting up…other see it for what it really is…an opportunity to earn a very good living providing content.

There are other ways such as blogging, affiliate sales, content writing, direct response web and more that you would use to earn a very good living from online.

There problem is that the Black community is too busy consuming rather than inventing!
